Bowie Church of Christ
Membership
Even though we do not find the phrase "placing membership" in the
Bible, the practice of identifying with a local church is an important part
of maintaining one's spiritual health and growth in Christ.
As members of a spiritual body we can care for each other through
prayer, Bible study, times of worship, and shared participation in good
works that reach out to a world in darkness. What we can do together
is much greater than what could ever be done alone. Together we
become the body of Christ (Romans 12:5):
"So we, who are many, are one body in Christ, and individually
members one of another."
Confessing Jesus as Lord and believing in your heart that God raised
Him from the dead results in salvation (Romans 10: 9-10). Being
baptized (immersed) results in identification and union with His buried
and resurrected Body (Romans 6: 3-4):
"Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into
Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? Therefore we
have been buried with Him through baptism into death, in order
that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the
Father, so we too might walk in newness of life."
If you have expressed your faith in this way then you are already a
member of the church of Christ. We would simply encourage you to
identify yourself as a fellow-believer and acknowledge the Bowie
church as a local family of believers you wish to entrust your soul for
spiritual care (Hebrews 13:17).:
"Obey your leaders, and submit to them; for they keep watch
over your souls, as those who will give an account. Let them do
this with joy and not with grief, for this would be unprofitable for
you."
If there is any part of that process you have not fulfilled, please let us
help you so that the wonderful blessings that come from being
together in God's family can begin today.
